Better communication begins with understanding differences
Insights Discovery™ within a nursing team
Challenge
Differing communication styles and ways of responding to patient needs led to misunderstandings and tension within the team. The nurses did not always understand the root causes of their differences in conversation style, information sharing, and interpersonal responses.
The Approach
Co-facilitating with a training partner, I ran a 4-hour Insights Discovery™ workshop for nurses at the Polish Mother's Memorial Hospital Research Institute.
The starting point was the participants' individual profiles and exploring the four colour energies, which help provide a better understanding of different preferences in communication and action. Participants examined their own strengths, communication habits, and how their style might be perceived by others.
What did the work focus on?
- Recognising personal preferences and communication strengths.
- Understanding differences in thinking, communicating, and responding.
- Noticing how one's own style impacts relationships with others.
- Adapting communication to the conversation partner and the situation.
- Using diversity as an asset to support team collaboration.
Potential outcomes
Greater self-awareness of one's communication style, a better understanding of interpersonal differences, and practical insights to apply in daily teamwork and patient interactions.
The core of the project
It is not about getting everyone to communicate the same way. It is about understanding differences and learning to collaborate more effectively because of them.
