Sensing – Intuition

This week is dedicated to the irrational functions: SENSING – INTUITION

This dimension is responsible for perceiving functions.

  1. People with a dominant SENSING function perceive reality relying on everything that comes directly from their senses; they focus on the present and current events.
  2. People with a dominant INTUITION function perceive the world holistically, guided by associations and imagination; they focus on the future and potential possibilities.
  3. This is a biologically determined dimension and, much like Introversion–Extraversion, it very rarely changes over time.
  4. Just like the other two dimensions, the Sensing – Intuition dimension is a continuum, and each of us can be at a different point on this axis and have a different intensity of a given preference.
  5. Everyone has access to both Sensing and Intuition, so you can draw on their resources in various situations; however, one of them will be dominant, which means it will trigger faster and more frequently.

‘Sensing people perceive things as they really are and not otherwise. Intuitive people also perceive, but less through the conscious sense organs, and rather through the capacity for unconscious, inner perception of the inherent possibilities of current events.’ – Jolande Jacobi, 1962
